This past Friday, the Stomp Out Malaria team met with the volunteer-led Community Health and AIDS Taskforce to discuss upcoming projects and ways to collaborate in order to engage as many Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) as possible in the fight against malaria. Stomp coordinator Meredith Baker, as well as Boot Camp V graduate and second year volunteer Alex Kuznetsov presented briefly on the state of malaria prevention activities in Burkina Faso, and reported on resources brought back from Boot Camp V in Senegal last month.
We discussed starting a regional malaria coordinators program, coordinating PCV participation in the universal bed-net coverage campaign being organized by the National malaria Control Program (NMCP) in 2013, as well as possible ideas for World Malaria Day. We also had a fantastic discussion about best practices and malaria prevention activities that volunteers would like more information on. This is an exciting time to be working on malaria prevention in Burkina Faso and the Stomp/CHAT partnership continues to be an extremely important one. Thanks so much to everyone who came out for the meeting and we’re looking forward to Stomping with you all!
